The inscription reads, "Mozart. Presented to the City of Brooklyn by the United German Singers of the City. First prize at the 18th National Saengerfest held at Philadelphia June 23rd 1897." The United German Singers were one of the choral groups popular at the time, like the Maennerchor that donated the Beethoven in Central Park. The United German Singers donated the Beethoven that sits near Mozart in Prospect Park.
